Historical-cultural information and curiosities: It can be said that the viticulture in the area develops with the rise of the Euganean Hills. The tradition of wine growing then came to the Romans, who refined it. With the arrival of the "dark ages" agriculture stops, and consequently also the wine production, that will start again in the monastery of Montecassino. In the Middle Ages the production of wine is so well established that it becomes a source of enormous wealth. During this time we are also witness the birth of the first labor contracts and of laws for the protection of vineyards. With the rise of the Serenissima Republic the wine demands of the Euganean Hills rises. A prosperous period which must, however, confront the epidemic of phylloxera, powdery mildew, downy mildew and frost in the early years of the twentieth century, which decimates the vineyards, so much so that foreign varieties had to be introduced to ensure the production of wine. In 1963 the DOC is assigned to the Euganean Hills. Serving suggestions: It is accompanied by soups, white meat and, if aged, is also excellent with meat of fowl and game.
