Italian Red Wine Cirò Rosso

Organoleptic characteristics: The Red Cirò has as a more or less intense ruby red color, with violet reflections (tending to garnet in reserves). It has a pleasant, delicate, intensely vinous smell. In the mouth it is dry, full-bodied, warm, harmonious, more velvety with aging. Historical-cultural information and curiosities: The Cirò wine comes from the Krimisa wine, from a Greek colony (which is today the town of Cirò Marina) where there was a temple dedicated to the god Bacchus. Krimisa was the wine offered to the winners of the Olympics. In the sixteenth century this wine is the symbol of a luxuriant and economically thriving Calabria, and this imagine will remain unchanged along the centuries to come. In 1968, to renew the ancient Greek traditions, Cirò was served at the Olympics in Mexico City as official wine. Serving suggestions: The Red Cirò is served well with roasts. Production area: The production of Cirò wines occurs in areas included in the territories of Cirò and Cirò Marina, and partly in the municipalities of Melissa and Crucoli. Grapes varieties allowed for its production: Gaglioppo (minimum 80%). Grapes from red berry varieties suitable for cultivation in Calabria up to a maximum of 20% are admitted (with the exception of Barbera, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Merlot that can contribute for a maximum of 10%).
