The Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG was born in the area of Vittoria (RG) in the second half of 1600. This wine has been recognized with the DOCG with the Decree of 13th September 2005. The name "Cerasuolo" comes from "cerasa" or cherry. There are two types of Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG: Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG and Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico DOCG. The two wines differ in aging and yield per hectare (The Classic has more restrictions). The grape varieties Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG consists of two varieties: FRAPPATO and NERO D'AVOLA. In particular, Frappato gives wine acidity and Nero D'Avola gives it softness. Frappato is produced only in an area between the provinces of Ragusa (classic area) and partly in the provinces of Catania and Caltanissetta. This particular area of Frappato is the element that has characterized the wine Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG.
