The smell is characterised by scents of small red fruits evolving into hints of jam and fruit in alcohol, and by balsamic and spicy notes. At the taste it is warm, full and harmonious. Historical-cultural information and curiosities: The origins are very ancient, even if the written documents that attest its existence go back to a couple of centuries ago. Giosuè Carducci and Cesare Pavese sang and praised its features. Serving suggestions: It goes well with red meats, game and cheese. Production area: The production area includes several municipalities in the province of Asti and Alessandria. Grape varieties allowed for its production: The grape varieties included in the composition of this DOCG are: Barbera (minimum 85%), Freisa, Grignolino and Dolcetto (for a maximum of 15%).
