Merlot

Merlot is an extremely popular grape variety that originates from South–West France (Bordeaux). The vine owes its name from the predilection that the blackbird has for its berries. The Italian Merlot is grown mainly in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Trentino, Veneto and Emilia Romagna. Moreover, thanks to its high versatility, it is cultivated also in Sicily. Merlot grapes give rise to a wine of not very intense ruby red colour, fruity and herbaceous smell, while the taste is quite tannic, full–bodied and balanced. Merlot is indicated with red meats, roasts, game and cheese.
