The vine variety probably has its origins in Greece and is now grown in the Veneto region, mainly in the areas of Soave and Gambellara. We have information concerning the existence of the vine since 1200, when it was used mainly for the production of sweet dessert and raisined wines. It is a vigorous vine, appreciated for its constant and plentiful production. It is rarely pure vinified. It often is combined with Trebbiano Toscano and Trebbiano of Soave. The wine has a straw yellow colour, a vinous and a fairly dry flavour.
