"Cru" is a French term meaning "grown up". It refers to all that is grown in a specific vineyard or sometimes more generally in a specific geographical location. The term is now used to classify the finest wines of the French production. This classification system originated in 1855 with the purpose of classifying the best Bordeaux wineries.
